Er trat die Nachfolge von Udo Hahn, der nach sechs Jahren nicht mehr kandidiert hatte. Der wiedergewählte Kommandant Martin Rank dankte Hahn für sein Wirken mit einem Präsentkorb. Einen weiteren Korb überreichte Rank an den bald in den Ruhestand gehenden Bürgermeister Erich Hegwein, der immer ein offenes Ohr für die Wehr gehabt habe.";
